If you are thinking of spending your Easter holidays in Florence, or generally taking a stroll during spring, you must know that this is truly a fantastic time to visit the city!
An interesting reason to visit Florence at Easter is undoubtedly the traditional “scoppio del carro”, a folkloric rite dating back to the time of the Crusades, which takes place on Easter Sunday in Piazza Duomo.
What does this tradition consist of? The celebration of this ritual has remained the same as it used to be; a cart dating back to the eighteenth century is towed by picturesque oxen decorated to the churchyard of the Cathedral, accompanied by a procession of the clergy to the Baptistery.
The wagon will be ready to surprise you with multicoloured smokes, the flight of the columbine, and a thunderous explosion, which will make it open like the petals of a lily.
But spring and Easter in Florence also mean immersing yourself in the full bloom of the beautiful gardens of the city, which offer a unique fairytale atmosphere.
The beginning of the season is the best time to admire the Rose Garden, the Iris Garden, the Boboli Garden or the Bardini Garden.
You will take beautiful pictures. Instagram success guaranteed!
And for those who love art, among the exhibitions that you can admire in this period also, if you have decided to go to Florence for Easter or for a spring trip:
-The return of Giuseppe Principe dei Sogni at Palazzo Vecchio, in the Salone dei Dugento, until 29 August 2020
– Tomás Saraceno exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi, until 19 July 2020
