Since its opening last June in Via dei Ginori 8 red, in Florence, La Menagère has been able to mix a refined taste for aesthetics and design, with a wide range of catering services. The business run by the Manfredi family, in fact, spreads over a very large area – over 1,500 square meters! – and brings together a bistro, a restaurant, a jazz concert hall, as well as an open space where, in addition to having a drink or a coffee, one can buy flowers and desing household products.
So, what is the idea that guides such an ambitious business project? Marco Manfredi tells us about it: “We got this space – which originally housed two, and then even three different businesses – with the aim of taking advantage of all the rooms available. Therefore, we were aware of the need to set up a complex project. We wanted to create a very attractive space, from an aesthetic point of view, and for this reason we relied on a team of architects. Their proposal to blend vintage style and desing with industrial/archaeological architecture won us over immediately. And the customers seem to like it too: ever since we opened to the public, we have always been fully booked”.
Let’s explore in detail the various environments that make up the place: “The right side houses the bistro on the ground floor, and the concert hall on the lower level – explains Marco -. This area was once the former La Menagère, a historic household products store, the first to open in Florence in 1886, so we kept the name. The bistro opens at 07:30 am for breakfast. We offer pastry and coffee, but also english and continental breakfast. From 12:00 am lunch is served: curry rice, salads and gourmet sandwiches. At 06:00 pm we start serving homemade pastries and cakes. But that is also cocktail time, during which we offer a wide selection of drinks, curated by Luca Manni – one of the best barman in Florence – accompanied by tapas (small dishes tasting). And so it goes, until around 01:30/02: 00 am”. The concert hall shows the same commitment to detail and quality: “Since September we started making music every Friday and Saturday. I chose to focus on jazz, a kind of music which offers very high quality standards of performance in itself, but I would like to host also blues and funk gigs in the future. At the concert hall bar, during the musical evenings, we also offer a selection of fine spirits“.
And what about the restaurant? “Our restaurant is located on the left side and on the wide area at the back, where the skylight with the tables and the piano, and the open kitchen are. As for the gastronomic offer, we got inspired by Davide Oldani’s pop kitchen (he also gave us his advice in this regard). We therefore have a reduced menu, we use simple raw materials, and we prepare refined dishes that follow the changing seasons. At the moment, for example, we offer winter delicacies such as tortelli with braised and roasted gnocchi. Our chefs, like the rest of our staff are young but highly qualified, they all come from catering institute. Our target is medium-high, and the quality of our cuisine follows accordingly: a whole meal, from appetizers to desserts, can cost around 50 Euros”. The central part of the place, finally, includes the entrance/reception and a large area with tables and lounges for bistros, cocktails and lunch. “It is thought as an open space, where one can relax. We do not put anyone in a hurry, we offer free wi-fi. Very often the students come here to study, and then stay in the evening for a drink”. What better place, then, to surrender to a pleasant day of gastronomic delicacies in the heart of Florence?
