Another year has passed and Christmas is coming again, that most magical period of the year in which Florence, despite the cold of the near winter, is filled with infinite warmth. Considering also the New Year and the Epiphany’s holidays, a long period of celebration is approaching, during which, it would be wonderful to visit Florence and breathe that magical air that already in this period, you can feel in the air.  Our most loyal guests will remember that last year, just in these times, we had suggested what to do during the holidays in Florence, but every year there are many attractions and today I would like to bring you among the “Christmas Markets” . They have a North European origin certainly, but for many years now, they’re perfectly undermined even in the Italian and Florentine culture, as well as a wonderful opportunity to fully experience the Christmas atmosphere by walking through the most beautiful streets of our beloved city and, in some cases, even charity.

If you are looking for ideas for some gifts to buy, or some decorations for your home or even the typical delicacies of this time of the year, the traditional Weihnachtsmarkt is the perfect place for you: the annual German market in Piazza Santa Croce , from November 28th to December 20th, will set up the beautiful square with its unmistakable wooden houses where you can buy handicrafts objects, from all over Europe. If you have children, remember to take them with you and visit Santa’s house: it has the characteristic of being played by female figures, since according to tradition, in Germany  the one who brings presents to the children is named Christkind, a spirit represented with blond hair and angelic wings.

Another unmissable stop if you are in Florence during the Christmas period is the Artedove Gallery, managed by the “Spazio Natale Emergency 2018“, which from 1 December until Christmas Eve, in Florence (and in other important Italian cities) opens with the goal to disseminate the beautiful work that the association does every year, collaborating with volunteers and offering gifts – whether these are clothes, games or foodstuff – strictly supportive and coming from the countries in which Emergency operates.

Do not forget to visit also at the American Christmas Market, organized by Ailo – American International League of Florence Onlus that, invented the Silent Auction in which you can make secret and written offers to buy the items donated and made available by Florentine companies and shops. In addition to shopping, this stop is mandatory for the best brownies in the world!

From November 30th to December 2nd, as usual, the Christmas Market returns to support the Croce Rossa Italiana (Italian Red Cross) , this year in the splendid setting of Palazzo Capponi on Lungarno Soderini (with entrance also from Via Borgo san Frediano 12), whose entire proceeds are donated to the needy families of the Florentine territory.

And if you are not yet satisfied with all this pre-Christmas shopping, you could also go at the Fierucola dell’Immacolata (8th and 9th December from 9.00am to 7.00pm) in Piazza S.S. Annunziata, and the one to be held (same time) on December 16th in Piazza Santo Spirito.
It seems already to see you walking through the streets of downtown, with Christmas music in the background, hands busy with dozens of gift packages, the belly full of sweets, cheeks red from the cold, but with a warm heart of love.
