It’s less than one month to Christmas day and which better opportunity to visit a city as beautiful as ours, even more this time of year. Between the warm and romantic atmosphere of this holiday, the decorations and lights that make it even more brilliant, the scents that come out from restaurants, all the gift ideas, we strongly recommend that you spend at least one weekend in Florence before the end of the year. Since few years now, the city has been invaded by an even stronger Christmas Spirit, accomplices to the various markets that were born following the model of the most known from Northern Europe. They do not have a long tradition yet, they are now a very attractive attraction for tourists and for the same florentine who love to wander among the classic wooden chalets in the most important squares of the centre (and not only).
First of all in Piazza Santa Croce: the “Weihnachtsmarkt“, a delicious market in perfect German style, which, from 28th November to 17th December presents 50 stands that display craft products and the most beautiful decorations for The Nativity, the tree and to adorn your home. You can’t certainly miss all those who sell precious and characteristic gastronomic products of our land, and not only. In some of these wooden houses you will be equipped with kitchens where you can taste hot and sweet dishes of all kinds, so if you are Strudel lovers, do not miss it and remember that opening hours are between 10:00 and 22:00.
If you have planned a stay in Florence on the Immacolata’s Days, you will be held from 8th to 10th December in Piazza S.S. Annunziata for the “Florence Noël”, a Xmas market-exhibition. Here you can find a lot of nice things that you can use as a homemade present. The Exibition is opened from 9:00 to 19:00 and is also perfect for children who will be able to take their letter with their wish list directly to the post office of Santa Claus.
On 1st, 2nd and 3rd December at the Obi Hall Theatre, on the other hand, you could visit the annual “Christmas market in support of the Croce Rossa”: as every year you will make nice purchases for your gifts and at the same time, to do charity for the Italian Red Cross. Or if you’ll be in Florence since 30th November to 3rd December in the historic building of Palazzo Corsini visit “NatalePer File “, or on 17th December in Piazza Santo Spirito take part in the “Christmas fierucolina”, or go to have fun with your babies at Santa’s village which will be set up in off.
Of course, these are not the only Christmas markets in Tuscany and you could take the opportunity, during your stay in Florence, to also take a trip out to Montepulciano, Siena or Lucca, to buy pieces of unique craft, but also to visit some Cellars and combine the tasting of Tuscan gastronomic excellence in the Christmas atmosphere.
